Register Deeds vs Clerk

The Burke Register of Deeds handles land records and vital records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. Restricted Clerk Records

The clerk maintains many public court records, but North Carolina law limits some categories. Juvenile delinquency, abuse, neglect, dependency, sealed cases, expunged criminal matters, mental health records, adoption records, protected addresses, financial account data, and other sensitive details may be withheld or redacted.
